We have phases because the Moon revolves around the Earth.
Revolution The circling of one object around another object in space. A planet revolves around the sun. A moon revolves around a planet.
Earth revolves around the Sun. Moon revolves around the Earth.
Why does the Moon and Sun appear to move in the sky?
Rotation - When a planet or moon turns all the way around or spins on its axis one time.
As the Moon revolves around the Earth, we see different amounts of the Moon’s surface in sunlight.
