Example of one intern’s essay begins as follows: ‘The most common understanding of leadership is influence, the ability of one person to influence others. Being in a leadership position within anything would be a pleasure for anyone. Few may be jumping in joyous. The reality is that you are being responsible for your every action. To me being in a leadership position within the mosque would be walking within the guidelines of the Quran. I believe that having so much of power/authority also means lots of responsibilities. Therefore, before making any action I will be more than glad to sit on a committee and make a decision based on everyone’s comment. As a leader I will always look forward to bring happiness in the community. I will never hesitate to stand for the rights. May Allah give us the strength to do good deeds.’ Essays from the Interns on if They Were in Leadership Position at the ICN
Another intern’s essay starts out as follows: ‘Leadership is a skill that lies within everyone, but the way in which it is used sets apart true leaders from the rest. It is a great burden for the one in charge to use his or her powers in the right way. The Islamic Center has had leaders that knew what they were doing and have been an important asset of the Muslim community. The main problem lies within dealing with the community which may tend to have corruption within and envy for those in charge, and the Islamic Center has had to put up with that.’..
