Outcomes of Tonight’s Meeting Understand structure of subsequent meetings and next steps. Establish work groups and record contact information for each group. Briefly explore what each individual can contribute to their chosen work group. Walk away feeling empowered and with at least one idea for immediate action.

Structure of Task Force  Within the next months, our task force will establish a Steering Committee. It will consist of members from various sectors of the community.  The leaders of each working group will be responsible for attending subsequent Task Force meetings and reporting on the activities of their working groups. In turn, they will take information and ideas back to their group.  Each subsequent Task Force meeting will have an informational presentation, which will be posted in advance on the Mulvane High School web page. If other members, (besides Work Group leaders,) have an interest in the presentation, they are welcome to attend.

Mulvane Working Groups Publicity – “selling” the task force to the community, recruiting members and key leaders, publicizing task force efforts Family – disseminating good parenting information, prevention education, starting or expanding a parent network Explore Youth Activities – partnering with existing community agencies to provide/expand alternative youth activities, engaging youth in prevention efforts Intervention/Prevention-Legal Issues – analyzing community data, working on environmental prevention, ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) referral and treatment School/Community Collaboration – prevention education, school policy and activities, intervention

One thing I want to remember…

“America's drug problem is not going to be solved in courtrooms or legislative hearing rooms by judges and politicians. It will be solved in living rooms and dining rooms and across kitchen tables – by parents and families.” Joseph A. Califano, Jr., CASA’s chairman and president and the former U.S. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare.
