3 In order to reach the goal  To have attended  ERF9 OF APEC in Qualumpur, in May, 2001  Expert Group Meeting in Khabarovsk by UN-ESCAP  To have started to plan pre-feasibility study  This work is sponsored by the government  To be organizing a special session  On July 10, during ICEE-2002 KERI Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute

4 Where are we ? Planning for pre-feasibility study Pre-feasibility study (3-years, ?)  Ongoing ( – 5. 02)  After planning study,  3-years (?. 02 – ?. 05)  Sponsored by the Gov. Feasibility study (?)  Dependent upon Pre-feasibility study Construction and Operation (?) KERI Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute

5 Why to plan pre-feasibility study?  Lack of confidence of government officials  Economic advantages  Likelihood to realize considering various barriers  Lack of consensus : national energy security  Competition between gas and electricity  To enhance the confidence  Reevaluate our preliminary study results  Convene experts(potential co-workers) and discuss future plan KERI Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute

6 What to do hereafter ?  Submitt our proposal to the Government  Have our proposal evaluated  If successful, the government will sponsor our research project  If not, our efforts will continue  Final decision around this September KERI Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute

7 What and how to do ?  Joint work with ESI and organization(s) in DPRK  Need participation of ESI with its own fund  Need participation of organization(s) of DPRK on the basis of exchange of technology and information  Period : 3 years, maybe start within this year  Target : Detailed assessment of pre-feasibility  On specific scenarios of RFE - (CH) – DPRK – ROK  In the economic, environmental, technical, political and geographical viewpoints KERI Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute
