Bruce D. Benton, RHU NAHU President-Elect Clarity  Freedom  Courage

Know Yourself First 1Clarity 2Freedom 3Courage : the quality or state of being clear : the quality or state of being free: as : mental or moral strength to venture, persevere and withstand danger, fear or difficulty

Clarity Enlightenment Why am I volunteering to serve (Motive) I feel a deep commitment to my industry and want to give back It will look really good on my resume It will expose me (my company) to business opportunity My local chapter needed a membership chair and I was railroaded 1

The role of the chapter president is that of profound leadership Strategic planning (assessment of committed human resources). Create a team environment and culture. Mission critical first, then value added (Run your chapter like your agency). Empowerment with accountability. Respect, dignity and sensitivity (Board relations). There is no “I” in TEAM Profound leadership development! All NAHU volunteer positions are important (Russ Childers) When you say yes, it’s a commitment. The greater good relies on you. The implications of non-engagement impact the entire team and NAHU as a whole. Personal responsibility. If you are having difficulties, do your own homework. Ask for help! Clarity, Enlightenment, Education

2 Freedom Empowerment Personal responsibility to fulfill commitment, do the homework and know where to go for help. Acquire a basic knowledge of NAHU and its structure. Read “The Leader” We are all spokespersons for NAHU. Educate yourself.

3 Courage Education & Entrepreneurship

A 3 person BOD that is Enlightened, Empowered, Educated and Entrepreneural can be as as much, if not more effective than a 16 person board. Run your chapter like your agency! Mission critical first; then value added.

When you write a new piece of business, do you thank your client, then relay on to ensure retention? Do you nurture a relationship with your clients? Maybe invite them to an event? To grow a successful practice, one must write new business and retain existing clients. How do you respond to members (clients) who leave you? , Facebook & Twitter are cool tools. So is the telephone! (Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y, Gen Z). The solution has always been the same, embrace your members. Membership (clients) & Retention How do we grow our chapter (practice)

A man decided that he would change the world. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change the country. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change his community. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change his street. But, be wasn’t successful. So he decided to change his family. But, he wasn’t successful. So he decided to change himself. And he was successful. And his family changed and they affected the street. And the people on the street affected their community. And the people of the community affected their country. And the people of the country affected the world. What makes us great? Exceptionalism! Versus focusing on what’s wrong. Here in lies the solution. One who saves one life, saves the world. The solution lies within the individual. You are the answer!
