Presentation transcript:

The essence of molo mimi is creativity, each canvas is uniquely developed into an ARTWORK using a technique called “free-stitch” on recycled fabrics. Molo mimi’s “fibre-art” has also been used for upholstery, lamp shades, soft furnishings and handbags. The possibilities are extensive. The objective of molo mimi is to create employment in an environment that can uplift on all levels through creative exploration. The quality of our products reflects our integrity.

Technique The technique used is often referred to as “free stitch” and is achieved using a domestic sewing machine. Various materials and techniques assist the process, which allow for sewing over many threads that would otherwise get tangled. We have developed our own techniques through experimentation and parts of the process are random, especially the first layers. This dictates the outcome to a large degree as we build the layers creating contrasts or movement using colour and texture. All fabrics used are collected off-cuts; that would otherwise be thrown away. Various threads incorporated are donated from people’s scraps and excess. The traditional technique of sewing has been deconstructed, with fabrics being torn, randomly positioned and meandering stitching.
