GREEN What is Sustainability all about?

“Going Green” Trend There are a lot of ideas about going green…But which one is right?

Defining Sustainability and “Going Green” Sustainability is a new way of thinking about an age-old concern: ensuring that our children and grandchildren inherit a tomorrow that is at least as good as today, preferably better. We want to make sure that the way we live our lives is sustainable - that it can continue and keep improving for a long, long time. -Sustainable Seattle

What’s the Big Deal with Energy? Energy production and use account for nearly 80 percent of air pollution, more than 83 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, and more environmental damage than any other human activity. Source: Harvard University Energy has the largest impact on our planet!

... there would be no light to turn on when it got dark... there would not be any hot water for the shower... no air conditioning in the scorching hot summer... no heating in the cold winter... no gas or oil to drive the car Imagine if there was NOT ENOUGH ENERGY!

How does Energy in Buildings relate to us? Source: ARCHITECTURE 2030 U.S. Energy Information Administration statistics. Graphic reproduction based on Metropolis US CO2 Emissions Magazine, October 2003 Issue. Buildings use 76% of all plant generated Electricity! United States CO2 Emissions If we change our habits in the way we use our buildings, homes, and offices we can make a huge difference! United States Plant Generated Electricity

In 2007, the Green Campus Program collaborated with the University President to turn off the lights for the CLA building during Earth Hour. One Building can make a Difference!

Incentives & Benefits  Monetary Savings  Conserve Resources  Better Environment  Healthier Lifestyle  Future Generations How can going green help me personally?

Yes, I want to know too! How can we start taking advantage of these benefits?

Look at what Cal Poly Pomona Broncos are doing to go green!
