Ice Skating

WHAT TO WEAR! You would need a dress to perform in and ice skates to skate in.

What is it? Ice skating is a sport and activity in which individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport included in the Olympics, in The four Olympic disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating and four skating. In senior-level competition, skaters generally perform two programs (short and long) which, depending on the discipline, may include spins, jumps, moves in the field, lifts, throw jumps, death spirals, and other elements or moves.

Where does it take place? The ice skating season is the period of time in which competitions are contested in the sport of ice skating. The skating season begins on July 1 of one year and goes until the end of June of the next. The seasons are referred to by the years they span. For example, the 2006/2007 season began in July 2006 and ended in June 2007.

Different events Ice dancing is a discipline of figure skating that draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976.

Lifts in ice dancing differ from those in pair skating in prohibiting the man from extending his hands above his head, but allowing a wider variety of holds. The more change of direction, flexibility, and height in the lift, the greater number of points a team can earn from the judges under the Code of Points scale. Dance lifts have progressively become more athletic and risky.[2][3] Multi-revolution jumps are not permitted but "half" jumps are now allowed. Spins must be performed by both skaters revolving around the same axis, the same as in pair spins. Judging

A popular activity dating back to ancient times, it wasn’t until the mid-19th century that ice skating separated into two forms -- speed skating and figure skating. At that time, Jackson Haines, a U.S. ballet dancer credited with being the founder of modern figure skating, added dance moves to his ice skating routines. Even today, ice skating remains a favorite recreational pastime for kids whatever form of skating they choose. Interesting Facts

 Great work Rimini. Wonderful information and great presentation. Perhaps some sound would be good too.  It would have been better though, if you had written in your own words, not just copied from the internet.  Some spelling mistakes to fix, look for the S boxes and fix, then resave into Collaboration folder.  You also need to cite where the information came from. But overall, very well done.
