Public Service Honor Roll Each month in QST’s Field Organization Reports column, the Public Service Honor Roll (PSHR) Recognizes the efforts of Amateur Radio operators Who are active in many aspects of public service.

Activities that count This includes net operations, traffic handling, emergency operations and public service communications support. For Franklin County ARES members, there is a good chance that you already qualify!

The Six Qualification Categories 1. Check into Public Service Nets 2. Pass Radiogram Traffic 3. Participate and earn an appointment 4. Earn while you train 5. Participate in actual emergencies 6. Have a Automated Digital System/List server which handles radiograms

1.Participate in Public Service Nets 1) Participation in a public service net – 1 point per each net check-in. Maximum of 40 points per month.

Examples 1. ARES nets 2. National Traffic System Nets * 3. SKYWARN Nets 4. Missouri Emergency Service Net 5. Missouri Emergency Packet Net 6. Hospital Amateur Radio Net * Checking into a NTS Digital Relay Net counts Relay Net counts

2. Pass Radiogram Traffic 2) Handling formal messages (radiograms) via any mode – 1 point for each message handled per month; maximum 40 points per month. 1. Originate1 point 2. Send1 point 3. Receive1 point 4. Deliver1 point

3. Participate and earn an ARRL appointment 3) Serving in an ARRL sponsored volunteer position: Field Organization appointment or Section Manager, NTS official or appointee, NTS Net Manager, etc…. – 10 points for Each position per month; maximum 30 Points per month.

4. Earn While You Train 4) Participation in scheduled, short-term public service events such as walk-a-thons, bike-a-thons, parades, SETs and related practice events. This includes off-the-air Meetings and coordination efforts with other Emergency groups and served agencies. - 5 points per hour (or any portion thereof) per month. No limit. per month. No limit.

5. Participate in Actual Emergencies 5) Participation in an actual emergency response when the amateur radio operator is on the scene. 5. Examples Activated Storm Nets Activated Hospital Nets Activation by a served agency Activation by any public or private organization requiring amateur radio emergency communications support

6. Have a Automated Digital System/Server 6) Providing and maintaining: a) An automated digital system that handles ARRL radiogram-formatted messages; b) A web page list server oriented toward Amateur Radio public service points per item per month.

Monthly Reporting At the end of each month, you count up your points. If they total 70 points (or more), you’ve qualified for the Public Service Honor Roll for that month. Then simply your PSHR point total And your call sign to your ARRL Section Manager and they will forward them to ARRL HQ for listing in QST (3 month lag).

Additional Recognition If you like collecting wall paper, keep track of The months you are recognized for the PSHR. If you qualify for 12 consecutive months or 18 out of 24 consecutive months, you are eligible for a one time certificate from ARRL HQ. You must ( and include the qualifying Months) to the PS branch of the Field and Educational services at ARRL HQ.
