What is WinLink 2000 What is WinLink 2000? WinLink 2000 is a system that utilizes enabling technologies (VHF/UHF Packet, HF Pactor l, ll, lll, D-Star, ) and sound operating practices to provide a full-featured radio digital message transfer system, worldwide. transfer with attachments, position reporting, graphic or text- based weather bulletins, and emergency communications are now available separately to the Amateur radio, Army Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS), and UK Cadet Forces communities by linking radio to the Internet.

Information sent via WinLink 2000 is secure from casual viewing and interception. Wisconsin ARES/RACES WinLink/APRS Implementation on MHz

What is APRS? "Automatic Packet Reporting System" (APRS) is a real-time tactical digital communications protocol for exchanging information between a large number of stations covering a large (local) area. Typically, this information is position data (latitude/longitude) of a vehicle or other item. In an emergency situation emergency responders need not know street names or other location data if they know that their APRS signals are being monitored. Short text messages can also be transmitted using APRS, allowing real-time messaging between stations.

Wisconsin ARES/RACES WinLink/APRS Implementation on MHz Why???

Wisconsin ARES/RACES WinLink/APRS Implementation on MHz Eliminating interference caused by running APRS on MHz, and WinLink on MHz while operating within close proximity of one another during an incident. Save on resources in the field. Continue to provide access to distant RMS Nodes in the event of Internet failure. Help in determining what resources are available, and monitor assets during an incident in real time.

Wisconsin ARES/RACES WinLink/APRS Implementation on MHz Change from NetRom Nodes to APRS Digi-Peaters

The Internet Telpac with NetRom PMBO with NetRom, and Telpac Old System Everyone can message to everyone, but where are they, and what are they?

The Internet RMS Node with APRS Digi-peater RMS Node with APRS Digi-peater, and RMS Relay New System Everyone can message to everyone, know what they are, where they’re located.

Real time resource information.

National Weather Service radar imaging can be imposed on the map seeing how it will effect you or your assets in the field.

Real time resource information. Asset location can be monitored in an effected area in real time.

Wisconsin ARES/RACES WinLink/APRS Implementation on MHz Emergency APRS Symbol

Wisconsin ARES/RACES WinLink/APRS Implementation on MHz APRS Emergency is an application that works along side UI-View32. And aids with finding emergency APRS beacons on UI-View32.

Wisconsin ARES/RACES WinLink/APRS Implementation on MHz When someone sends out an emergency beacon, APRS Emergency places a red circle around the object, and sounds an alarm.

How does your county let responders know what resources are available during an incident, is it in real time? If someone used an emergency APRS beacon in your county for help could you them? What are you waiting for? Time to fill your tool kit….
