Two-degree Study Programmes (following Bologna Process) There is a three-stage education model at agricultural universities: 1. Stage one - B.Sc. programmes for young people who want to start their professional careers soon. Students may be recruited from among less ambitious candidates or those with more limited financial resources. The studies take between 3 and 3.5 years. 2. Stage two - Master studies, which last between 1.5 or 2 years. 3. Stage three - supplementary studies: - 3 or 4-year doctoral studies for more ambitious young people - post-graduate studies

Triple Bottom Line 1.People and Community (social responsibility) 2.Planet (environmental sustainability) 3.Profit (the bottom line)

1. People and Community (social responsibility)  Business economics  Engineering of agricultural production  Organization and logistics in production engineering  Agricultural and food engineering  Information technologies in food economy  Ecoenergy and forest technology  Food quality and safety

1. People and Community (social responsibility) The University mission educating experts who would find employment in the widely understood food and forest economies and specialists in environmental protection. One third of rural youth have agricultural education but only one percent completed higher agricultural studies. Therefore, the market of people potentially interested in our offer is considerable. Over 65 percent of rural inhabitants before 30 years of age declare their willingness to acquire tertiary education.

2. Planet (environmental sustainability) Knowledge became the most sought after good and determines the strength or weakness of a nation. This situation opens wide perspectives for science but at the same time burdens it with great responsibility. Our university wants to participate in this process of constructing economy based on knowledge, both on the national and regional level.

3. Profit (the bottom line) According to our mission the University aims to prepare specialists able to fulfil the contemporary requirements of sustainable development based on the principles of organic farming and use of the natural resources. It is impossible to forget that we operate in market economy. Our offer is subject to severe laws of sales and demand whereas the competition on the educational market is growing. Demographic processes will also seriously affect our activities.

3. Profit (the bottom line) Unfortunately, the outlays on these studies both from private and public funds remain the lowest in the whole area of research and development. At the same time the percentage of public funds is among the highest. It means that economy does not perceive any simple translation of research projects conducted at out university into economic success and profit. However, this situation does not concern only agricultural sciences. It is enough to say that only nine percent of enterprises in Poland invest in research and development activities.

The Strategy of the University Development Considers: Integration of the scientific research with the EU system  Development of interdisciplinary research  University joining international scientific networks  Increasing academic staff mobility

The Strategy of the University Development Considers: Supporting research fitting into the priorities of South Poland regional strategy  Intensification of science transfer to practice  Conducting research considering the specific character of mountain, highland and border areas  Active participation in the operations of local clusters and scientific networks

The Strategy of the University Development Considers: Building lasting partner relationships between the University and self-governments and national economy  Establishing a University socio-economic cooperation platform  Updating the research area, scope and principles of University cooperation with enterprises  Regular meetings with the University graduates to establish partnerships with economic entities

The Strategy of the University development considers: Cooperation with institutions of national economy and providing consulting and educational services for them  Cooperation in research implementation with organizations in South Poland  Adjusting post-graduate programmes to the needs of market and national economy  Providing of training courses and workshops
