William Barret Travis (1809-1836) By: Jacob Shaw

FAMILY William Barret Travis had a wife named Rosanna Cato a son named Charles Travis and a unborn daughter named Susan Isabella. William Travis abandoned them and moved to Texas.

CAREER BEFORE MILITARY Travis became a lawyer at the age of 19 and joined the military when he moved to Texas.

INTERESTING FACTS Travis had order a suit before he left for the Alamo but it was never delivered. Travis was only twenty-six years of age at the time of his death. He began the publication of a newspaper, the Claiborne Herald, in Claiborne, Alabama.

ALAMO Travis commanded the Texas defenders during the Siege and Battle of the Alamo. His Appeal from the Alamo for reinforcements has become an American symbol of unyielding courage and heroism. Although a few reinforcements arrived before the Alamo fell, Travis and over 180 defenders gave their lives for Texas independence on 6 March 1836.
