USING TECHNOLOGY AT WORK Information Technology (IT) refers to the creation and installation of computer systems and software.

 Knowing the basics of computer hardware and software, and how to troubleshoot common problems  Using the Internet and programs  Using word-processing software  Creating and working with spreadsheets  Working with databases  Creating and giving presentations I.T. JOB SKILLS NEEDED (NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF JOB YOU HAVE)

 Accountants – Spreadsheets and databases help businesses track sales and expenses.  Journalist – and networks can be used to file stories from around the world.  Doctor, Dentist, Lawyer – Doctors use the Internet to read the latest research papers in their fields.  Buyer for a Department - Spreadsheets help buyers compare products.  Office Assistant – Word-processing software helps workers quickly create letters and documents.  Teacher – Presentation software helps teachers create and present lessons. Networks allow teachers to monitor student work. CAREERS THAT USE TECHNOLOGY

 Electronic Job Market – Web sites where companies can look for employees and people can look for jobs. Examples of Electronic Job Markets CareerBuilder.com Monster.com Indeed.com Snag a job.com  Advantages of Using Electronic Job Markets: 1.Often offer special features that make searching for a job easier and faster than using a newspaper’s Help Wanted ads. 2.Hundreds of employers see your resume. USING TECHNOLOGY TO FIND A JOB

 A resume is a summary, or review of your skills, education and work experience. A resume is a document that should be typed with perfection because you are making a first impression when the company receives and reviews this document. The information included in your resume must be true information and not false. WHAT IS A RESUME (RE-ZA-MAE)

 Good grades  Take technology related classes.  Begin to learn about the skills, education and certifications you will need for jobs that interest you.  Develop your “soft skills” which include your communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.  Keep learning and stay up-to-date with current developments in technology. HOW YOU CAN PREPARE FOR A CAREER
