6 Attributes of Jesus Christ (God)

6 Attributes of Jesus Christ (God) To help develop our character in a positive way, we can look at six attributes of Jesus that can help us understand him better as a person of Good Character.

Goodness (Matthew 25: 34-37: Jesus’ Explanation of Goodness) Refers to positive and important behaviour towards others- particularly the poor, the hungry, the homeless, and the sick. What is the correct thing to do? Healthy self-esteem and honesty are 2 qualities that can help someone to act with goodness.

Power (Matthew 8: 23-27: Jesus Calms the Storm) To have authority, control, or influence over other people and things in a positive way. It is shown by strength, energy, and might. We have the power to improve our relationships with others and the world.

Wisdom (Luke 2: 41-52: Jesus Teaching at the Temple) Is the knowledge to discover the truth, and decide the best course of action in a situation. Other words for wisdom include insight and good sense. People who have wisdom listen carefully to others, and receive new ideas/teaching with an open mind.

Love (John 21: 15-25: Jesus appears to Peter) The first time Jesus asks Peter :Do you love me?” He is referring to: PHILO (Fi-low) a Greek word that describes the love that parents have for their children, or the love between siblings or friends.

Love Continued… The second time Jesus asks Peter :Do you love me?” He is referring to: AGAPE (Aa-Ga-Pay) a Greek word where people show unselfish love and care for people without expecting anything in return. This love is for strangers and enemies and extends beyond just family and friends.

Mercy (Matthew 18: 23-35: Parable of the Unforgiving Servant) Is showing compassion and understanding for someone who may be experiencing difficulty in their lives. Forgiveness is also related to mercy. Jesus taught us to share and create a culture of forgiveness. You will certainly want forgiveness many times in your life.

Justice (John 13: 1-15: The Washing of the Disciples’ Feet) What is the “right” thing to do in a situation? It means providing people with what they need. Justice tries to address the concerns of the homelessness, hunger, etc. by working toward fairness and equality for all. There are many ways to help people in need with varying degrees of commitment.
