“The Word Became Flesh” John 1:1-14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.

In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through Him all men might believe.

He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him.

Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, Who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Vs “The Word” (Greek word, “logos”) means reason or word and is a designation for Jesus Christ Himself.

1. The Word existed before the world began.

Vs “The Word” (Greek word, “logos”) means reason or word and is a designation for Jesus Christ Himself. 1. The Word existed before the world began. 2. The Word was with God – distinct from, yet in communion with God the Father.

3.The Word was God – Identical in essence with God the Father.

4.Through the Word, God brought into being the entire created universe, both the visible and the invisible.

5.The Word is the source of the physical, intellectual, moral, and spiritual life of man.

6.God the Word became flesh, or incarnate as a human being.

This is why John wrote this Gospel - to build faith & confidence in Jesus Christ so that we may believe that He truly was & is the Son of God. (John 20:30-31)

Colossians 2:9  For in Christ all the fullness of the deity lives in the bodily form.

Colossians 1:17  He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

John 20:30-31 – Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.

vs The truth of the incarnation is so intimately meshed with every other doctrine of the Gospel, that if either His true human nature or His true divine nature is destroyed, Christianity cannot be true. (1 st John 4:2-3)

1 st John 4:2-3 – This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

By becoming human for our redemption & restoration, Jesus became: 1.Our perfect teacher – He shows us how God thinks and how we should think. (Phil. 2:5-11)

Phil. 2:5-11 – “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

2.Our perfect example – He models what we are to become, shows us how to live, and gives us power to live that way. (1 st Peter 2:21 – “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.”)

3.Our perfect sacrifice – a sacrifice for all sins, and His death satisfied God’s requirements for the removal of sin. (Col. 1:15-23)

Col. 1:15-23 – “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him.

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him,

and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight,

without blemish and free from accusation – if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held in the Gospel. This is the Gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.” (WOW!!!)

Grace may be defined as the unmerited favor of God toward a sinner; it is everything for nothing to those who deserve the exact opposite.

Bottom Line: The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us, so that He could dwell in us.
