Presentation transcript:

What students are saying: * Only 6% of students said they heard about commencement from their instructors. * Only 2% of students said their instructor’s encouragement was the reason they attended. Why don’t they attend: * If they had known earlier * They think it is cost prohibitive, only cost is cap and gown and there is free donation program * Did not think they could attend until their classes were completed * Didn’t feel it was worth it for a Certificate * Didn’t feel it was worth it for an Associate’s Degree * No friends or family to celebrate with them Those who do attend say: * A moment of realization...you have earned a place within a community. It's a rite of passage into something bigger than just you. * A must attend event. You worked hard for it and should enjoy the moment!!! * A fun and a good way to end your journey, and begin the next chapter of your life! * It is a celebration of all of the years of hard work. * It's a chance to meet other graduates who share your excitement. * It is one of those milestones you don't want to miss. * It gives family and friends a reason to get together for a happy celebration and it’s all centered around you. * The commencement ceremony was lovely. The venue was beautiful.

* Staff/Faculty have donated funds to cover the cost of caps and gowns for students in need of support ($29.70) * Each year students donate their own cap and gowns in support of students needing assistance. * Students can visit Student Affairs, I4-409 to receive a cap and gown. Tassels ($5) and Honors Chords would be extra ($10) FREE CAP & GOWN PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS IN NEED (e.g. those that want to participate but cannot afford associated costs vs those that simply don’t want to pay)

Let’s Celebrate!
