1 Common MYTHS About Parenting

2 All Parenting Skills Are INSTINCTIVE No one is born with ALL the preparation needed to be an effective parent. Some skills seem to come naturally to some people. Some people have stronger parenting instincts than others. Many parenting skills must be learned. Parenting takes work and practice. People read books and take courses. Intuition isn’t always best.

3 PARENTING IS ALWAYS FUN It’s easier to see the rewards of parenting than the challenges and responsibilities. You need to have realistic expectations. A sense of humor and a positive attitude helps parents through the difficult times.

4 CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS CUTE AND SWEET Children can be adorable, but be prepared to accept reality. Children can also be messy, sick, squirmy, uncooperative, noisy, and stubborn. Even cute, sweet babies grow quickly into school-age children and teens with different needs and demands. Learn about and look forward to all the stages of growth to find joy and satisfactions.

6 PARENTING The name given to the process of raising a child. Parents provide the daily care, love, support, and guidance their children need to grow and develop into adults. Parenting is a lifelong process. At some time in their lives, most people become parents.
