The Video Republic What is the video republic? A new virtual public space; a video community which is becoming THE place for debating, active citizenship and changing society.

The Video Republic an inclusive democracy? NO! Mainly because of two reasons Digital gap: 20% in the EU has broadband internet Inequalities in media education

Role of media education Young people grow up in a digital culture with online identities, the education system does not only needs see the value of viewing and interpreting films but make a leap into seeing children as producers of film! Recommendations: Enable young people to manage their online reputation Help young people to become fluent in audiovisual forms of communication from an early age Formal education systems should draw expertise from the informal sphere to unlock the potential of video making
