 Objective: Girls’ is a program which helps empower young girls to become strong and independent woman later in life.  How:The program provides these young girls with practical life skills and information, so they can learn to become responsible adults.  Why: Life skills learned in this program will help these girls develop better self-esteem, learn to financially stable, cooperate with others, and resist becoming involved in dangerous activities.

 Where: community center  When: Afterschool  Environment: This aspect is crucial for the program. Girls are only allowed because it gives them the freedom express themselves fully, without the pressure of their male counterparts.  Ages: Between the ages of 6 to 12 years  Population: Underprivileged females

 To prevent young girls from becoming another statistic.  To ensure young women have the foundation necessary to succeed later in life.

 Economic awareness ◦ To help girls learn how to handle money more effectively.  Sport involvement ◦ To learn to cooperate with others, while learning leadership skills.  Career training ◦ An introduction in male centered careers such engineering, science, and other male dominated careers.

 In 2000, 28% of young women under the age of 18 were arrested (Federal Bureau of Investigation,2000).  In 2006, 81% of one parent households were headed by women(U.S. Bureau of the Census. (2000).  Increasing a child self can help better cope to daily issues of both home and school.  The family benefits from the assurance that their child will be able to face the environmental stressors their neighborhood.  Increase self esteem can help these progress in school. 
