Saints Christian Children’s Home Kenya The Story So Far

Through a 10 year friendship that has existed across continents, a bigger dream has been born to share the love of God with children in need.

2006 – ‘The Kenya Project’

St Thomas Church in Kendal was involved in fundraising to enable the building of a home for 5 siblings who after losing their parents at a young age also had their family home taken from them.

Preparing the Land…

Lorine Akoth, the eldest of the family has seen God’s provision in her life and wants to reach out to others in the same situation with the love and hope that he gives.

The family have taken in 10 orphaned children from their community whose neighbours or friends can no longer afford to care for.

Saints Christian Children’s Home The Beginning…

The Children – March 2007

The Children

Lorine, Erik, Rose, Martin & Willis

After visiting the home in March 2007, 3 friends from St Thomas Church decided to get more involved with the project by setting up a charity to support the work.

The home was desperately in need of plaster for the walls and beds for the children who were sleeping on the mud floor. When the rain came, the mud on the walls was washed away and the floors became flooded.

SCCH – August 2007 The walls are plastered!

Over the last year: The buildings have been plastered inside and out to protect against the weather. There is now a permanent clean water supply at the home. Beds, bedding and mosquito nets have been provided for the children. The home has been connected to the electricity supply and the power is now on!

Over the last year: All the children who are old enough to attend school are doing so, and doing well! New school uniforms and shoes have been purchased for all the children. A new gate has been supplied for the home to increase security. The plot of land adjoining the home has been purchased and they have started to keep chickens.

The Children – August 2007

In the coming year: They hope to improve security with fencing and a nighttime guard. Development of the adjacent land will continue with the aim of growing fruit and vegetables and keeping chickens and goats. The home is currently registered as a community based project, and the staff aim to achieve registration as a children’s home.

Please pray: For all the children and staff that they would continue to know God’s love and grace in their lives. For safety in the community and when traveling on the roads. That the cost of food and essentials would come down again after the recent economic disruptions. For peace and stability in Kenya.

Thank you for your support
