… with an old, diverse fleet 14 types of train –different sizes (1,2,3 & 4 carriage sets) –4 x electric types (41 x trains) –10 x diesel types (272 x trains) Age of fleet between 10 – 26 years old Average age of diesel fleet 24 years old 5 x depots & 7 servicing locations 29 x overnight stabling locations 75% improvement in fleet reliability Over two thirds of the fleet refurbished Expansion of fleet from 271 to 313 trains 60 carriages implemented December 2011

Tackling Overcrowding Negotiations with DfT since 2008 to secure additional carriages Long and complex to secure VFM and robust plan 60 additional carriages from December 11 Additional maintenance depot at Allerton Platform lengthening 85 extra jobs
