WELCOME TO CHERAW INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL  Principal – Mr. Scott Eddins  Assistant Principal – Mrs. Angela Demby  Guidance Counselor – Mrs. Layvonne Byrd

I believe… when children enjoy school, they learn more. So the goal is to create a safe environment in which students can learn and have fun!

Safety Safety is our first priority. We conduct safety drills each month and teach the students how to be safe.

Expectations for Academics We believe “READING IS ESSENTIAL!” Therefore, we expect our students to do lots of reading – up to 45 minutes a day at school and another 20 to 25 minutes at home. Over 14,000 books in the library, plus more books in the classrooms  Reading Competitions – Battle of the Books  Reading Celebrations – Read In  Reading Challenge Questions (Book Bucks)

Math, Science, and Social Studies are emphasized, too! Math instruction is augmented with computer-based programs like “Extra Math”, “Reflex”, and “Moby Max”. Science will be research, projects, and experiments. Social Studies will be integrated with ELA.

Communication is so important! We want to keep you involved and in the “know”. We will communicate with you through the following methods:  Student Agendas  Weekly Classroom Newsletters (Monday)  Weekly Folders (Thursday)  Monthly School Newsletter and Calendar  Monthly Parent Involvement Workshops  School Messenger  School Facebook Page  School Webpage  Parent Portal  Open Door Policy

Parent Involvement Opportunities  Volunteering  PTO  School Improvement Council (SIC)  Mentoring
