Presentation transcript:

Vocabulary Flashcards and Homework  You will be assessed on vocabulary approximately every other week, generally on Fridays.  Spend at least 10 minutes a day learning your stems and words.  Vocabulary assessments are cumulative, meaning that List 64 tests Lists 61-64, not just List 61.  You have two assignments which are required for each list: flashcards and sentences.  Flashcards are due the Wednesday after they are assigned. Sentences are due on assessment day.

Flashcards Using 3x5 index cards and markers, you will create your flashcards as follows: 1.Write one stem on each card in the color of your choice. 2.In the same color, write the corresponding definitions on the reverse side. 3.Using the same color as the stem, and at least one other color, write the word on one side of another card. 4.Write the definition of the word on the opposite side. 5.Add the list number to the front side of the card.

What should the flashcard look like? (stem) mal 31 (definition) bad 31 (word) malapropism 31 (definition) Ludicrous misuse of a word. 31 CARD 1 FRONTCARD 1 BACK CARD 2 FRONTCARD 2 BACK

How do I do the sentences? Parts of speech sentences: - Copy one half of the sentences and label each part of speech. Example: His malapropisms amused us. Adj noun verb noun

How do I do the sentences? Context clue sentences: Pick one-half of the words and create a sentence which demonstrate the meaning of the word. Example: malapropism Everyone laughed at the teacher’s malapropism when she said that the playground was infatuated with fire ants instead of infested with ants. - You cannot “skimp” on these. Be sure to use clues, not just throw in the definition. - Pick the words that you have trouble remembering the definitions because writing the context clues will help you!
