Armed Forces of the United States By: Kristina Mouser & Jenny Zeigler ED

Unit  Our unit of the week is geared toward our nations military. It is important for children to learn about the military and its role. In our community, Wright Patterson Air Force Base is right around the corner, and many of our students have family that are either active duty or reservists. Therefore a branch of the military will be highlighted for a day.  If possible we will ask any parents that are in the service to come in and speak to the students about their jobs.

Active Duty  Our nations military is primarily compromised of active duty personal. These are men and women whose job is the military. When they are required to move they transfer their lives to a new location. They also can be deployed for a period of time, in which their families can not follow.

Reserves  Many men and women choose to be in the military reserves. These are people that live and work in our community. They may go to work for the military for only a few weeks of the year. These service men and women can also be deployed for longer amounts of time; but they return back to their homes and jobs when they are back from deployment.
