 Vikings- Early carpenters  Used wood in almost all construction  Dragon ships  Similar boat still made today: Gondola

 It interests me  I think it’s fun  A life skill I will attain

 Build a fireplace mantel  First Step:  Pick what kind of design I wanted to go after.

 Determine what can be done with what I have

 Sketched my primary thoughts

 I realized how much work that would be and re-sketched it

 Step Five Went to Homestead in Brookings and bought my wood, stain, conditioner, polyurethane, and brushes  Step Six Take the boards home and sand them with 80, 120, and 220 grit sand paper  Step Seven Wipe the board clean, apply conditioner, and apply stain. Let sit for a few minutes and wipe off.

 Apply polyurethane

 Tare off tile and re-tile the wall and floor Before After

 Pull off trim and nail on first boards

 Put on first board that will be seen

 Nail on the next four boards one inch up and one inch over

 Cut excess at a little under three inches

 Put on the last two front boards and the cap board

 I should have checked for it to be level but I got lucky
