AGENDA QATAR NATIONAL VISION 2030 KM STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION IN LINE WITH QNV 2030 WAY FORWARD TO ACHIEVE RENEWABLE ENERGY PROGRAM IN LINE WITH QNV 2030 KM STRATEGY SWOT ANALYSIS - SOLAR POWER GENERATION ECONOMICAL ANALYSIS. RECOMMENDATIONS SOLAR PROJECTS – UNDER IMPLEMENTATION

Environmental Development KM STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION IN LINE WITH QNV 2030 QATAR NATIONAL VISION 2030 Social Development Economic Development QNV2030 FOUR PILLARS Economic Development Human Development Environmental Development

Environmental Development KM STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION IN LINE WITH QNV 2030 QNV2030 FOUR PILLARS Social Development Economic Development Human Development Environmental Development Environmental Development

STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION IN LINE WITH QNV 2030 In line with the QNV 2030, KM thru Renewable Energy Technologies Section has planed to introduce the Renewable Energy technologies for power generation & water production technologies in the State of Qatar in a phased manner to enhance: Sustainability of the state water & energy recourses (Economic Development pillar of QNV). KAHRAMAA commitment to no carbon / low carbon to maintain sustainable environmental development. (Environmental Development pillar of QNV).

By 2022 from Renewable Sources STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION IN LINE WITH QNV 2030 Plan to Generate 150-200 MW By 2022 from Renewable Sources

WAY FORWARD TO ACHIEVE RENEWABLE ENERGY PROGRAM IN LINE WITH QNV 2030 To achieve our goal and success we have to

SWOT ANALYSIS – SOLAR POWER GENERATION

STRATEGY SWOT ANALYSIS Strengths Existing KM facilities can be utilized to generate a remarkable quantity of power without allocating new land. W Easy to integrate the power output in KM substations available nearby. T Reduced Transmission & Distribution losses due to power generation location in load center. O Diversify energy sources.

STRATEGY SWOT ANALYSIS Weaknesses New generation technology for KM system. Strengths Competition from thermal generation. O T

STRATEGY SWOT ANALYSIS Direct Savings due to reduction of Natural Gas consumption. S W Solar generation serves as backup power for emergency security in case of black outs. Strengths Weaknesses Peak Shaping Reduced emissions along with QNV 2030. T O Possible carbon trading In line with QNV 2030. Opportunities Country Image Enhance Qatar 2022 commitment.

STRATEGY SWOT ANALYSIS Harsh environmental conditions. S W Strengths Weaknesses High initial capital cost. High tariff in case of IPP business model adopted. T Threats Decline in Natural Gas global prices. O Opportunities KM limited resources

Solar Generation Plans for Tomorrow Our Plan to Generate 150-200 MW Future Plans – Location of KM reservoirs RPS in 30 locations in Qatar. The total roof top area 583,000 sq.mt 1 MW solar would need about 17,000 sq.mt About 35 MW without need for new land allocation. Mega reservoirs - Roof Top Area of 1.7 Mil sq.mt additional 100 MW (approx) solar plant. 70 MW would need around 230 hactar Our Plan to Generate 150-200 MW Achieveable By 2020

SAMPLE MEGA RESERVIOR

SOME KM FACILITIES

SOME KM FACILITIES

SOLAR PROJECTS – UNDER IMPLEMENTATION KM-QEERI cooperation Solar Cogeneration Plant for Power and Water Desalination – CSP Technology around 2 MWh & 300-500 cubic meter per day .

EXAMPLE OF CSP PLANT FACILITIES

PROJECTS – UNDER IMPLEMENTATION KM-QEERI cooperation Plant for test Sea Water RO Desalination technologies from many aspects included but not limited to power consumption with initial water production of 200-500 cubic meter per day.

PROJECTS – UNDER IMPLEMENTATION KM-QSTec Cooperation By using RPS & SS exist facilities & infrastructures KM in partnership with QSTec to study the proposal on Duhail RPS which has 6 nos of 20+MIG reservoirs each with roof top area of approx 20,000 sq.mt (Total area = 20000 X 6 = 120,000 sq.mt) with potential to install approx 7 MW solar plant.

PROJECTS – UNDER IMPLEMENTATION SMART GRID PILOT PROJECT, KM - IBERDROLA Smart Distribution and Transmission Smart Generation Smart Grid Communication between system components Smart Consumption Smart Storage Interdisciplinary technologies: Data collection, processing and recombination Market Grid Operation

PROJECTS – UNDER IMPLEMENTATION Grid Connection Renewable Energy Source: Connect the different renewable energy technologies in QSTP experiment field with KM grid. Plant size is 100 to 500 KW.
