MAN UP BIBLE SERIES Living a Legacy Lesson Eight

The Real World We have all been shaped by the men in our lives; Sunday School teachers, Youth Ministers and Corps Officers have all impacted, molded and shaped us into the men we are today. Someone took the time to invest in our lives. Now it is time for us to give back. Each of us needs to reevaluate how we are going to spend our time. We need to look for those future leaders and pour the Spirit of Christ into their lives. I believe there is a generation of young men who are waiting to be challenged, to do great things for God. We must not let them down. The world we live in will never stop in it relentless pursuit of their souls, yet we give up on them at every turn. Take a chance today and reach out. In today’s lesson we will look at the way Paul reached out to Timothy and use that as a model for us.

The Real Word 2 Timothy 1 New King James Version (NKJV) Greeting 1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ [a] by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,a 2 To Timothy, a beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. Timothy’s Faith and Heritage 3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, 5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 2 New King James Version (NKJV) Be Strong in Grace 2 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure [a] hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, and may [b] the Lord give you understanding in all things.ab

Real Talk What is a Mentor? ( examples; Moses to Joshua, Paul to Timothy) Name a young man that needs your support right now. ____________ What are some things you could do to show him the right path? Put down a timeline for what you are going to do and be specific.

Real Steps Mentoring lessons from Paul: Call young people to something great. (2 Tim. 1: 5 - 8) Be what you want them to be. (2 Tim. 2:2) Lets by dynamite not duds! (Acts 1:8) Mentors are Role Models, Counselors and Guides. ( 2Tim. 2:1-7) Three Guys Paul Mentioned in 2 Timothy 4 are a type for us: Demas - loved this present world.. “Me First Attitude.” John Mark – Paul sent him off and Barnabas made him into an evangelist. Do not be afraid to reach out as a failure could become a success. Timothy - (2 Tim. 1:6) – Fan into flame the gift … Throw some holy fuel on the fire of a young person’s soul!.

Time to Close Now is the time to make a difference in a young man’s life. If not now, When? If not you, Who? If not here, Where? If not by prayer, How? The youth of today need mentors and role models who will show them how to live out their faith. God has put you on this earth not just to make sure you get to heaven. He has put young people in your lives as an opportunity to make a real difference in their Christian walk. Do not let them down. Do not let Christ down. So it is time to gear up and find your Timothy. Who will be the first to answer that call?
