Key people Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980 and 1984.His press secretary James Brady and two others where shot by John Hinckley Jr. Sandra Day O'Connor is sworn in as the first female appointed to the US Supreme Court in 1981 Sally Ride was the first women in space for the United States. Jesse Jackson was the first African American who ran for president. During a military parade Egyptian President Anwar Sadat was assassinated with grenades by his own soldiers in 1981.

Key Events Pope John Paul II receives a severe gunshot wound when a person tries to assassinate him. Some think it was for his strong political views against the Soviet Block during the Cold War. Challenger explodes 74 seconds after takeoff. Killing 7 astronauts. Reagan’s 2 nd term ends with Scandal with the Iran-Contra Affair.
