Media By Oscar and April

What is your topic? Our topic is media. It represents the way Arabs use the ways of media/mass media. In general it refers to various means of communication. Some forms of media are newspapers, television, radios, the Internet, cell phones, etc.

Difference of media in - 1. Qatar (Gulf Country) 2. Jordan (Non – Gulf Country) 3. Canada (Non – Muslim Country)

Media in Qatar, a gulf country - There are most of the media found all over the world available in Qatar such as newspapers, radios, television channels, etc. but certain things are censored. Suppose a word in a song is not appropriate, it is censored on the radio because it might seem abusive to a certain type of race, religion, colour or gender.

Media in Jordan, a non-gulf country- It is almost the same as Qatar but it is not in the Gulf. Words in a certain song will not be appropriate and like in a Gulf country it may be abusive to people of a certain kind, gender, or color and would mostly be censored and a very little chance of it not being censored.

Media in Canada, a non - Muslim country In a place like Canada, on a radio a song with an inappropriate word is played even though it might be offensive. It will not be censored in some non-Muslim country.

As a visitor to this country how do you find it?

Oscar : - As a visitor to this country, I find it surprising as due to the religion many things would change compared to a non – Muslim country. An example is that in a movie, certain parts of a movie will be cut where as in a place like Canada it will not be cut, it will only allow people of certain age or above to watch the movie.

April : - As a visitor to this country, I find it very strict but I like it here. Due to the religion many things are not allowed compared to a non - Muslim country the things will just stay the same for example the songs sometimes have offensive words about a religion, race or gender some non - Muslim countries don’t censor them, in Muslim countries they censor them.
