MERRY CHRISTMAS

Customs of England. It is popular among children at Christmas pantomime, drama and song of the fairy tales that encourage audience participation. The carols are sung on Christmas Eve by groups of singers to their neighbors. The children hang half the bottom of the fireplace or at the foot of the bed so that Santa would fill. Gifts for the family are placed beneath the Christmas tree.

Christmas Day is the opening of presents and many families attend religious practices in the church. The traditional Christmas dinner consists of roast turkey, goose or chicken with stuffing and roast potatoes. This is followed by mince pies and Christmas pudding flaming with brandy, which must contain coins or other cheerful charms for children. The pudding is usually prepared weeks beforehand and is removed as was the custom for each family member and make a wish at the same time. Later in the day of Christmas cake should be served, a rich baked fruit cake with marzipan and icing sugar.

The mistletoe considered sacred by the British Druids were believed to have miraculous powers among the Romans. He was a symbol of peace and said that when enemies met under it they handed over some weapons and declared surrender. So the custom of this well under a mistletoe, England was the first nation to use at Christmas.

Anglo-Saxon tradition includes roast turkey is very popular and widespread and the Christmas table, it is frequently found. It is also common roast turkey stuffing, which makes the meat more flavorful and more special recipe to celebrate these festivities.

The most exciting start for children on Christmas Eve, they hang their stockings (an old sock or, more ambitiously, pillow cases) around the fireplace or at the foot of the bed for Father Christmas (Santa Claus) the fill gifts. The first traces of the English Father Christmas or Santa Claus in his traditional red suit and white found on an engraving of 1653. However, the story of Santa Claus arriving in a sleigh pulled by reindeer and down the chimney to fill children's stockings with gifts, comes from the United States

New Year Customs In England The New Year in England is celebrated with great enthusiasm. The New Year is celebrated either by having a party at home with family and friends or gathering at a pub or club. At the stroke of midnight the people in England spend their time by cheering, hooting, whistling, kissing and drinking toasts. According to the New Year custom in England the first person over the threshold is considenavy to bring good luck to the household in the coming year. This custom that the people in England follow is called first footing. They believe that it would ensure good luck for the in habitants of the house.

Christmas is Britain's most popular holiday and is characterized by traditions which date back hundreds of years. Many Christmas customs which originated in Britain have been adopted in the United States. he first ever Christmas card was posted in England in the 1840s, and the practice soon became an established part of the build-up to Christmas. Over a billion Christmas cards are now sent every year in the United Kingdom, many of them sold in aid of charities.Christmas decorations in general have even earlier origins. Holly, ivy and mistletoe are associated with rituals going back beyond the Dark Ages. The Christmas tree was popularised by Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, who introduced one to the Royal Household in 1840. Since 1947, the country of Norway has presented Britain annually with a large Christmas tree which stands in Trafalgar Square in commemoration of Anglo-Norwegian cooperation during the Second World War.
