 Post –It Strategy and It Says, I Say Strategy

 An inference is a conclusion that you make using the text and what you already know.  Not written in the book. This is where “reading between the lines” happens.  You can inference – what is going to happen next (prediction), how a character is feeling, what a character may be referring to.

 Personal Connection o Finding a character, setting, theme, or event that you can relate to your own life. While you may have never been in an arena killing other kids (Hunger Games), you have probably stuck up for a brother, sister, friend, etc. and took the blame like Katniss volunteered for Prim.  Background Knowledge (Schema) o Looking to what you already know to make an inference. This may be a lesson you learned in life, in school, on TV, etc. In Maze Runner, Thomas wakes up remembering who he is but nothing else. I know that many times people with memory loss can remember certain things, but not everything. If someone gets a concussion they may remember everything except the day before, of, and after the injury.

 Post –It - strategy this week will focus only on personal connections and background knowledge.  Follow along as I model this. Try and think if you have any and we will share them at the end.

 Tuesdays and Thursdays with my Nana during school breaks

 Big cities normally have a city bus.

 I used to wait at the window for my Pop and Gigi to get in town from Houston.

 Pop one year pretended that all my Christmas presents were from boys in my class at school. He was a great actor about it.

 Families that all get together for birthdays are very close and have a lot of memories.

 Sometimes parents travel for their jobs.

 As people get older their joints start to hurt.

 I get excited about giving presents to people because I work really hard on finding the prefect one.

 Often times family or economic situations can cause someone to not gain an education. This happened a lot a long time ago, so some older people may struggle with this.

 My Opa is always trying to learn new things even though he is 80.

 My Gigi puts her cheek to mine when she hugs me.
