Special Education, Learning Disabilities K-12 French PreK-12

I am currently a Special Education teacher at Hidden Valley High School. I have been with Roanoke County Schools since January, During my tenure, I have taught with faculty in many departments, including English, Math, and Science. Additionally, I teach the Developmental Reading classes at the school.

Extensive background in the field of Special Education in a variety of settings. Thorough understanding of the needs of Special Education students and parents. Ability to effectively communicate with others. Willingness to collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to address students’ educational needs. Detail oriented.

My work experience includes Professional Clinics, Private Schools, and Public Schools, working with children of all ages and ability levels. Working with parents of special needs children has been invaluable in understanding the complex issues involved when dealing with families of special needs children.

 Co-Chair of The Achievement Center’s SACS renewal committee ( )  Presenter at Virginia IDA State Conference (2003)  Developed a specialized high school curriculum for learning disabled students at The Achievement Center. (2002)  Director for S.W. Region, VA International Dyslexia Assoc. ( )

As the Special Education coordinator I would work with faculty members to promote the use of effective strategies for working with struggling students. Content area teachers are faced with the challenge of meeting SOL Standards with students who have poor reading comprehension skills or limited English proficiency. They struggle for ways to address the needs of these students while keeping pace with the curriculum requirements.
