© 2011, National Association of Health Underwriters NAHU’s Professional Development Promotes Chapter Success Through: Information gathering entails learning what the members of your association need and want educationally and what will motivate them to participate national and locally. Planning involves assisting with ideas with developing an education plan for the year that includes schedules for speakers, CE seminars and forum discussions, as well as the topic(s) that will be emphasized by each one. This is the blueprint for the local association professional development year. Your national committee possesses many preplanned resources that are available at the chapter’s finger tips. It is our responsibility to inform our chapters. Marketing is the process by which the chapter and national office are responsible for communicating the benefits of all programs available to members and chapters with rebate and revenue opportunities. By conducting a promotion campaign (web training, attending local meetings etc.,) attendance for programs will be increased. Before developing a marketing plan, it is important to have a general understanding of the various means of delivery, discount programs, partner involvement and student services offered. Implementation, Be knowledgeable about how all of our professional development resources can be delivered and accessed. Evaluation and feedback/reporting, your collected information from all state/local chapters is valuable to the national committee and staff. This information is shared to better assist national with improving on the value we offer through member benefits.

© 2011, National Association of Health Underwriters Understand the distinction between certifications and designations. Your credibility depends on it. Classroom and Online Regulators and company compliance departments are more often scrutinizing “weekend” designation programs, which has led to a concerning level of confusion in the marketplace of what constitutes appropriate standards of professional education. Understanding the distinction between a certification that allows you to become an expert on one topic and the rigor of study required for an industry designation that allows you to be an expert on many topics is important.

© 2011, National Association of Health Underwriters Transparency and Clarification How You Use Accreditation Guidelines are designed to help companies and individual professionals conduct due diligence and make determinations about which programs of study they will reimburse and allow for business card use. NAHU is a non-profit educational provider with a high level of accreditation. For full transparency and clarification, we established a checklist of points for consideration based on our history and code of ethics. NAHU is a not-for-profit entity NAHU as a provider maintains regional accreditation; the highest level of accreditation available NAHU as a provider upholds a long tradition and history of educational offerings that dates back to 1930 (i.e. DITC, RHU and REBC) NAHU course examinations are proctored and “closed book” by state requirements and generally should exceed a 80% pass rate for the program overall (an indication of examination rigor) NAHU certifications have consistent requirements and historically do not require additional fees to maintain a NAHU certification NAHU keeps in place governance over the annual renewal of course content and filing standard in compliance aligned with each state DOI requirement(s).

© 2011, National Association of Health Underwriters How our students benefit from their professional accomplishments: How a certification is used is as important as the quality of the certification itself and why it is important to be mindful about the logo professionals use in media coverage and the actions of other companies who promote/use NAHU certifications. The national office can provide producers with guidance when making educational decisions.

© 2011, National Association of Health Underwriters One more way our students benefit from their professional accomplishments: NAHU’s Find an Agent in the News NAHU’s Find an Agent feature has been getting amazing media coverage across the nation. From articles in the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal, to a mention on The Today Show, reporters and consumers are flocking to NAHU’s website to find insurance agents and brokers who are leading experts in various discipline.Find an Agent How does Find an Agent benefit you? As a member of NAHU, your name and contact information are automatically entered into the Find an Agent database. When a consumer goes to the NAHU website looking for health insurance, they type in their zip code and twenty members’ names are randomly provided. Your certification will also be listed under this feature.
