ENGR FALL 2007 WIND TURBINE TEAM 1 JERRY BERNARDINI Project Overview

Project Goals Design and build a Picoturbine improved wind turbine Build the turbine with used hard drive magnets The no-load voltage will be three times the Picoturbine The turbine will be weather proof Project ready for testing by Thanksgiving

Project Team and Skills Jerry Bernardini - Electrical Engineering Major  Electrical circuits Tom Jones – Civil Engineering Major  Wood working Billy Joel – Computer networking Major  Spread sheets and ideas Clark Gable – Acting Major  Presentations and reports

Project Description A purchased kit was built and tested The kit parts used as part of a larger turbine Magnets obtained from hard drives Wind new coils Test new magnet coil combination Build wind capture section Complete construction Test

Competitive Analysis StrengthsWeaknesses Team-1Balanced skill set, good math skills, great idea people Getting everyone to a meeting Team-2Seems like a smart team Will build a HAWT Seems disorganized Team-3Good team sprit Good skill set No obvious weaknesses Team-4Good ideas but secretive about their plans Have not been using Engineering Journals

Technology Features Moving Permanent magnets  No commutate needed Coils wound to 400-turns with 20 Gauge wire  More voltage  Lower coil resistance Wood turbine construction  Vibration reduction  Easy to modify

Team Resources PeopleFour team members that show up for every meeting EquipmentHand tools Drill Power saw SkillsElectrical, wood working drafting Outside SourcesMachine shop if needed Work LocationsTeam member basement and garage MaterialsAluminum sheets available Buy most wood

Team Procedures Jerry is the leader for the first seven weeks Frank is the leader for the last seven weeks Highlight any procedural differences from regular projects of this type Discuss requirements, benefits, and issues of using new procedures during week Meet before every class Exchange Engineering Journal sketches and notes

Schedule High-level schedule milestones Sep Oct NovDec Phase 1 Picoturbine Phase 2 Phase 3

Current Status High-level overview of progress against schedule  On-track in what areas  Behind in what areas  Ahead in what areas Unexpected delays or issues  Wire for new coils are delayed
