JPI “More Years, Better Lives: The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change” 4 GPC-Meeting, Brussels, Rationale for the JPI “More Years, Better Lives” The ageing of the European population is a thriving societal development that is not yet tackled appropriately. The JPI seeks to solve the upcoming social and political problems, make use of the economic potentials and establish a positive vision for “Ageing in Europe”. The interdisciplinary and holistic JPI’s concept got strong support from the European Research Community on the European preparatory workshop in January 2010 with 130 experts form 20 MS and 4 AC.

Working environments must be recognized as learning environments. Social inclusion needs to be secured both in urban and rural contexts. JPI “More Years, Better Lives: The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change” 12 GPC-Meeting, Brussels, Expected Impact This approach will initiate a change “from guessing to knowing”. Providing data for an evidence-based policy is the primary task and objective of this JPI, including the following questions: “What is needed?” → Identifying the potential for positive change. “What can be done?” → Scientific findings as evidence for policy. “How to implement?” → Policy measures that can be used to improve the situation. “How to measure?” → Evaluation in order to adapt the policies.
