Driver Education Rules of the Road Chapter 2

Driver’s License Exam  At the Secretary of State’s Office, you have 3 parts of the driver’s exam that you must pass.  You have up to 3 tries per year to pass the vision, written and driving exam.  You must take the exam for yourself. Failure to do so results in 7 days in jail plus a fine!

Organ Donor Registry  If you are at least 18 years old, you can register online to donate your organs in the event of your untimely death.  To join the registry:  Go to  Or call  Or register through the Secretary of State

Organ Donation If you are under 18, you cannot join the registry However, you can let your family know this is what you want so they at least know how you felt about the topic when the doctor asks them about it, if you pass on before you turn 18.

Voter Registration  If you are at least 18 years old, you can register to vote at the Secretary of State’s office.

Selective Service  Males between the ages of 18 to 25 information will be submitted to Selective Services system to be registered. You the Secretary of State’s office authority to do this once you sign your license or State ID. This is the law so there is no way around it because you must sign your card!

Written Exam at the SOS  If you take the written exam with the SOS, you will have to identify traffic signs by shape, color or symbol  You will also identify signals and pavement markings  There will be multiple choice and true/false questions  The questions at the end of each chapter are designed to help you to pass the exam

Cheater’s Rule at the SOS  During the written exam, any person observed cheating or thought to be cheating will be warned 1 st. If caught again, you will fail the exam and cannot attempt to take it again until 30 days later  However, in Driver’s Ed, if you are caught cheating you will fail the class and must take it again during evening or Saturday school.

Driving Exam at the SOS  You must bring a vehicle with you if you have to take the driving exam with the SOS.  You must have proof of insurance  You must have valid plates and stickers on the plates  If the vehicle is registered in Chicago, you must have a valid window sticker

Driver’s Exam at SOS  You must wear your seat belt properly!  Only you and the examiner will be allowed in the vehicle.  You must be able to properly start a vehicle, back the vehicle, perform a turnabout, park uphill, start uphill, park downhill, start downhill and control your vehicle.

Chapter Two: Look It Up  If you need to wear glasses or contacts determined by the vision exam at the SOS, what will be placed on your license?  When taking the Driving Exam at the SOS, who must drive the vehicle to the SOS?  When backing up your vehicle, according to the ROR book, what must you do with your head?
