Fighting For Driver’s Ed At UP West
What’s the problem? Students feel unsafe getting to and from the bus stop before and after school Many students are consistently late to school because they rely on public transportation, which is not always reliable Urban Prep does not feel like a proper high school.
What do Urban Prep Students Say? We gathered our data by distributing interviews to thirteen freshman students and one teacher during pride and at lunch Sample question: What would be the benefits of having a Driver’s Ed program at school? We also interviewed Mr. Muhammed and Ms. Turner
Survey Results The results indicate that: 100 % of students would like to have a Driver’s Ed program at Urban Prep 25% of students think that we should have to earn the right to take Driver’s Ed classes 75% of students think that we should not have to earn the right to take Driver’s Ed classes Quotes from Mr. Muhammed and Ms. Turner “A Driver’s Ed program would teach the students how to be young men and teach them how to drive”
Our Solution Based on the results of the survey, we decided to petition for a Driver’s Ed program Why? A Driver’s Ed program will help to prevent students from getting in fights Program details: Students will be able to enroll in the program if they get good grades Students who have one or more F’s will not be able to participate in the program until they no longer have any F’s in their classes The classes will be held three times per week How will we pay for this program: Fundraisers: haircuts, candy sale, car wash Families can give money/donate We can do hair cuts, sell candy do car wash
