 Chapter Six Highlights Take one minute to share the most important point of chapter 6 and how you felt about that point with your partner. Then your partner will use the engagement skill of empathic response to show empathy with how that point made you feel.

 Treatment Planning

 Let’s Practice… Give an example of a problem statement, goal statement, objective, and intervention for the following clinical issue:  ADHD for a 9 year old in 4 th grade whose problem behavior is getting out of his seat during class  Depression symptom of hypersomnia for 42 year old woman with Dysthymia whose problem behavior is being late to work due to the symptom.  Panic disorder in a 19 year old male post a severe car accident whose problem behavior is missing college class due to fear of driving

 Exercise

 Role Play  Role play a client/counselor interaction where the counselor helps the client identify a personal problem of living, as described by Reid’s Problems of Living, found in figure 6.1 on page 196. It will be easier and faster to use yourself for content, but please be appropriate in the selection of the problem you share  Assist the client in identifying one goal they would like to accomplish in overcoming this problem.  Set up a contract with the client following the components found in figure 6.2 on page 199.  Reverse roles and repeat  You have 20 minutes total to complete this exercise Start role play activity by 8:50pm
