RENE MAGRITTE November 21, 1898 René François-Ghislain Magritte is born in Lessines, Hainaut (Belgium). In 1912 Magritte’s mother kills herself in the Sambre river, to be discovered with her nightgown covering her face. In 1916, Rene Magritte leaves high school and enrolls at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He had classes of Drawing, Decorative painting, and, Ornamental composition. Here you see the first of his work when he uses the Sambre river, which is the river where his mother killed herself. Rene Magritte Dies on August 15, 1967 in Brussels. He was 68 years old.
