Make it easy for people at DWR to create GIS web apps
Setting the scene:
When the cadre was formed...
10.0 server
No enterprise GIS web apps
No enterprise GIS services
No clear workflow to make an app
Ad hoc permissions
:(
What needs to change?
Ability to work on apps; reduce the barrier to entry
Staging & Production
Having two separate environments solves many problems
Staging permissions can be looser
(join the cadre and you can make apps and services in the staging environment)
DTS doesn't need to ensure the staging server's integrity
Experimentation!
You don't need to be an expert to start working on an app
(making it easier to create!)
How about creating apps?
Best practices / standards espousing good design principles
Collection of resources
Workshop on creating services
Brownbag on creating services and applications
Upcoming 2 day training
...but dive in!
What's the workflow?
Step-by-step guide from a map and idea to an application
wr-web-map-resources
Server names, urls, going from staging → production
Templates
Make it as easy as possible to have a fully-featured application
...but also easy to customize
And no additional cost or platform lock-in
Use them! opane
