What is the internet? The internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use TCP/IP to serve billions of users online.

Who owns the internet? There is no owner of the internet. Anyone and everyone who pays for internet connection owns their own internet connection. The networks within the internet are owned by organizations.

How do you connect to the internet? What is needed:  Computer  Modem  ISP  Telephone line  Web browser How to connect: Your computer must have a modem and be in reach of being connected to your home phone line.

Terms  TCP/IP: The Internet Protocol Suite is the set of communications protocols used for the Internet and other similar networks.  www: World Wide Web  Browser: A program to view HTML pages  Internet addresses: uniquely defines a node on the internet.  Web address or URL: the global address of documents and other resources on the www.

Finding information using Directory services A directory service is a software system that stores, organizes and provides access to information in a directory.

Finding information using a web address If you are using a known website and know its web address, you can surf the internet and open up the website required and find the information you are looking for within that website.

Finding information using a search engine Web search engines are designed to help the user find desired information or a website by giving multiple options when a search has been made.

Searching the web using keywords  Search terms:  Use likely words  Be specific  Be brief  Spelling does not matter  Advanced Search Syntax: This is used by Windows to better help users narrow down and make their searches more specific.

Finding information using a web bot It is a software program which is said to be able to predict future events by tracking keywords on the internet.
