Saying “Come” To A Topical Class Sunday Service Bible Classes Lectureship/Special Speaker Great Singing Personal Study Neighborhood Bible Study

We’ll look at the many simple things that we can say – I want you to be able to say, “I could say that!” about some of these

I will call saying “Come” a “Gentle Touch”

What do you do when a sales person pushes too hard? Spiritual invitations must be “gentle touches” not hard pushing lectures. II Tim. 2:24

2 Tim 2: And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, NKJV

Col 4:5 A Key Commandment of God 5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. NKJV

To do a wiser invitation better, write out 2 or 3 tonight or tomorrow and, in time, write 5 or 10!

There are 5 categories of people you should identify Totally Unconcerned Now Curious Personal Worker Prospect Project

Be sure you understand the numbers so that you don’t get discouraged! Out of 100 people you invite 1 is the prospect 10 will visit one time 4 return, 6 will not 1 of those 4 is your prospect

There are many levels of saying ”Come” in a better way!

Level One The Starter Level Just Give A Simple “Come!”

Just Give A Simple “Come!” The Starter Level One of these days, why don’t you go to _________ with me?

Just Give A Simple “Come!” A Great Student’s Touch Hey, come and go to _________ with me __________!

Just Give A Simple “Come!” One of these days, you should come and visit us at _______________.?

Just Give A Simple “Come!” “I could say that!” One of these days, why don’t you bring your Bible and come and visit us at _______________.?

Second Level Start to add helpful elements Add a small element of curiosity

Add an element of curiosity Start with “come and see” or “come check it out”

If it is wise for Jesus to say “Come and see!” it is a powerful expression that any Christian could learn and say.

John 1: Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said," Behold the Lamb of God!" 37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?" NKJV

John 1:39 39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour). NKJV

Philip said “Come and see” to Nathanael when he objected to Philip’s initial touch in John 1:46.

It does not have to be smooth or brilliant!

Anyone Can Say ______, why don’t you come and check out this _______________/“great little church on _________.”

At any negative comment, say Why don’t you come and see for yourself?

You can add phrases such as Why don’t you… bring your Bible and… come and see for yourself?

You can add phrases such as Why don’t you …come for about 4 weeks… and see for yourself?

Third Level Learn to… Add some warmth and love!

Third Level Or Learn to… Build a “Warm Bridge”

I sure like your kids. And I like how hard you are working at being a good mother. You know what would be great for those kids? ______________ ____________________!

Kindness Phrases - Openers I appreciate how much you love your family … You are a good moral man… You are a really hard worker… Jim, do you know that you would not have to change much to be a Christian… I appreciate your _______ “honor to whom honor” Rom. 13:7

After a word of kindness You can ask someone you don’t know well “Where do you go to church?” or “Where did you develop your moral foundation?” Or give an immediate invitation to someone you know better

You are one of the hardest working people in this whole office. Have you ever thought about spiritual values? If you are every looking for __________ you ought to ______________!

You are one of the hardest working people in this whole office, you need to meet the good people at/in ______________.

Fourth Level Tell them about some good clear benefits!

Ask yourself what spiritual elements would benefit them the most? Bible Classes for their children Godly help for their marriage Joys of salvation Peace of forgiven sins Help to handle “out of control desires” Wisdom that the Bible gives Benefits, help of learning how to pray

After a discussion of problems or difficulties… Do you know what would help? Describe the benefits!

If you are ever looking for the best help of all, you ought to visit the visit the Lord’s church in Clay for about 3 months and see how much you will learn – just how much the Lord will help!

I sure like your kids. You are working at being a good mother. If you are ever looking for a great foundation for them, ___________ ____________. Bring them about 4 weeks and see what they learn.

See the benefits for a friend or family Write them out Put the warmth in Tell them about the benefits Tell them where it can be found

I could say that!

Let me stop my list and emphasize an Important point! Prospects around us almost never come unless they are invited by a good moral member that they respect.

Sometimes it is one person removed from a good moral member - Lady in Sunnyvale was invited numerous times 8 to 10 years earlier…. Chiropractic student who was told where to go by a fellow student who did not go herself

Now back to how you can improve your invitations with questions!

Fifth Level Questions are great. Jesus wisely used them often. Find the right question!

You Can Ask A Mother Bible stories really build children’s morals! How much would you like for your kids to really learn the Bible and its great moral values? The best place I know around here that teaches the Bible well is ______________.

You can learn to ask a formative question One that plants a value in their mind! You are doing a great job with your kids. What things are you interested in more for your children – An education for a great job or for them to develop moral strength and character for a good life?” Moral strength comes from Bible stories! The best teaching of Bible stories around here is at ________.

You Can Ask A Seeking Person Have you ever thought that you would like to learn more about the Bible? (Reply) “ If you want to learn the Bible, there is a kind preacher at ________. He really uses the Bible. You could bring your Bible and check him out a few Sundays and see how much you learn. The Bible will really touch you!

You Can Ask How much would you like to learn more about the Bible? (Negative Reply) Well if you ever think you would like to learn the Bible, there is a great teacher at ________. He really uses the Bible. You should bring your Bible and check him out and see how much you learn. The Bible will really do you a lot of good!

Paint a value in their mind with questions. Get them thinking about a powerful motivation.

Questions for Former “Attend-ers” What were the really good things to you when you went to church? Do you miss them?

Sixth Level You can tell a story! What do you remember the best – an explanation or a story?

Collect Stories Practice Them Drop Them In A Conversation!

Seventh Level Bring a Spiritual Value to Mind I appreciate your interest in religion! I suppose you know your Bible well?

How well do you know your Bible on a scale of 1 to 10? Would you like to know it better? A friend of mine and I are planning to get together to read some from the Bible and, if you are interested, we would love to have you sit in with us and three or four others.

If your child died now, where do you think they would go for eternity? If you died now, where do you think you would be forever?

Occasionally, there is a place for a tough question! If your child died now, where do you think they would go for eternity? If you died now, where do you think you would be forever? If your child died 20 years from now, where do you think they would be in eternity?

Closing Question Does that bother you?

Eighth Level You can ask for permission!

Asking for Permission If I knew some verses in the Bible that you really ought to read, would you want me to show them to you?

Asking for Permission If I knew something in the Bible that was really, really important for you to know, would you want me to show those verses to you?

If you don’t get permission, remember… “Well, remember that I asked, and if you are ever interested, say something to me, and we can check those verses out.”

Asking for Permission for Repeated Touches I’ve told you a number of times about things at _____, and I’m not trying to nag you into coming. If it bothers you and you would rather I didn’t say anything about it, I won’t say another word!

Ninth Level Can you describe present and future feelings?

Can you tell someone how great it is to be forgiven of your sins?

Can you tell someone how exciting and humbling worship will be in heaven?

Can you tell someone how overwhelming Judgment will be?

Can you tell someone what you get from the Lord’s Supper every Sunday

Can you tell someone what you get from the Lord’s Supper every Sunday or the effect on you of worshipping God, blending with others and teaching in singing?

Could you start with the simple, Write some out, and know “I Could Say That!”?

Do at least one or two tonight or tomorrow and others later.

This is important!

If you don’t write them out, most people will never start inviting.
