Background Within the framework of the 5 Yearly Review procedure Major changes for Fellows and Associates Minor modifications for Students Approved by Finance Committee and Council on March 2006 Application from 1 st July 2006 Conditions for contracts created before this date will be not changed

Fellows Main aims: Simplifying administration Removing age limits Extension towards B.Sc. Level Complying EU regulation (EST integration) Reducing cost while keeping the current take home pay level Attracting external funds

New fellow subcategories Junior Fellows (FELL, JR) B.Sc. or M.Sc. with less than 4 years relevant experience Applied subjects: Preselection Senior Fellows (FELL, SR) M.Sc. or Ph.D. between 4 to 10 years of relevant experience since M.Sc. Applied subjects: Ranking meeting Experimental and Theoretical Physics: National Delegations and PH internal ranking

Fellow payment levels and contributions ATTENTION! Paid Scientific Associates (PDAS) Main aims: Issue of principle: “CERN is not the employer of the PDAS” Removing employment like benefits Simplifying administration More transparent payment system Elimination of Home Support deduction

PDAS payment ATTENTION! In some documents the new payment is described as a combination of a basic plus a seniority based supplement Monthly payment to cover the cost of living in the Geneva integrating a seniority based element calculated as years of experience after the first university degree <10y6000 CHF 11-15y6500 CHF 16-20y7000 CHF 21-25y7500 CHF 26-30y8000 CHF >30y8500 CHF Non-residence allowance integrated into the to monthly payment The payment independent from the Home Support To attract candidates with very high Home Support Family supplement 1000CHF/months (implemented as a different salary band) Least one dependent family member accompanies PDAS to CERN For a period of least 6 months (next slide) CHIS membership is optional (on the standard Associate rates)

No Home Station definition for PDAS Arrival entitlements Initial travel from the last place of residence REMOVAL IS NOT PAID Leave entitlements For contracts of least 6 months: annual, sick, special and maternity leave NO HOME LEAVE (Neither extra days of paid leave nor payment) School fee reimbursements only For children accompanying the PDAS for least 6 months In the local region (20km radius around Geneva) Within the current financial limits Termination entitlements Termination travel back to place of residence before CERN REMOVAL IS NOT PAID
