Environmental Awareness Raising Terez Krisztina Szabo Ministry of Rural Development Envrionmental Development Policy Department

Use of the evaluation in the planning process The evaluation serves as a good basis for the planning process the evaluation provides data and makes possible the better assessment of the indicators in this field The benchmarking is a good proposal but we suggest to use it not only in itself but together with other quality insurance methods Cost effectiveness is really very important but it sould not be the most important element, since the impact of the projects, especially the long term impacts are also very essential. The introduction of the good and bad examples is crucial, but these should be defined according to the type of activities.

The Structure of the Environment and Energy Efficiency Operative Programme 1. Adaptation to climate change 2. Development of water utility services 3. Development of water quality, waste management, air quality, eco-innovation 4. Nature conservation and ecosystem protection 5. Promoting energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy source 6. Environmental R+D+I, awareness raising 7. Technical Assistance

Objectives of the planned awareness raising measures The environmental awareness and attitude of the society will definetely improve In order to protect the natural heritage and to promote sustainable lifestyles wide-range information supply to the public about the state of the environment and ecosystem services, the expected processes and its connections with the present consumptions and lifestyle patterns, and about the possible ways of change.

Planned type of activities within the KEHOP Within the Environmental R+D and awareness raising priority axis, connected to the thematic objective no. 6. Programmes presenting the environmentally conscious lifestyles, good practices Activities serving the environmental awareness raising and dissemination (e.g.: events, publications ) Development of the environmental advisory offices serving the public Activities serving the environmental management schemes of the institutions Wide range promotion of the alternatives with lower environmental burden (e.g.: product qualification and labelling supporting conscious purchasing) Education, training, and dissemination regarding the knowledge sharing public databases in order to increase the environmental awareness of the consumers Development and establishment of demonstration houses for the communities presenting sustainable lifestyles Organising camps aiming at environmental awareness raising for the schoolchildren

Conclusions The objectives are similar to the present ones The results of the evaluation will be definitely used in the planning process The database of the good and bad examples can support the potential beneficiaries to improve the quality of the projects The elaboration and appliation of a proper methodology will support the effectiveness of the future projects
