Program of Activity “POA”

The Program of Activities serves as a road map to guide an FFA chapter toward its annual goals.

What POA do FFA chapters use their Program of Activities (POA) to plan and develop their goals for the year.  A well developed POA serves to define the chapter goals and outlines steps needed to meet those goals.  It provides a written guide that provides administrators and advisory committees and others with a calendar of events the chapter will follow in the year ahead.

What POA do A well-planned POA will: Ensure that the chapter activites meet the needs of the members. Provide direction year to year Provide experience in planning Serve as a reference point throughout the year.

The Key to a Good POA Get members involved in the planning and carrying out the activities. Members involvement is essential

Building a POA A chapter builds it POA around “divisions”. Divisions focus on the types of activities a chapter conducts. They place importance on The student as an individual The chapter as a group of members The community as a whole

3 kinds of POA Divisions 1. Student Development Division The Program of Activities is divided into three major sections. 1. Student Development Division 2. Chapter Development Division 3. Community Development Division

Student Development Division Promotes leadership, personal growth, and SAE activities

Chapter Development Division Focuses on recruitment, finance, public relations, support groups, participation in state and national FFA, and other organizational activities Encourages students to work together.

Community Development Division Cooperate with other groups to make the community a better place to live and work Strives to develop economic, environmental, and human resources; citizenship; agricultural awareness and literacy; and safety

POA Committees The three divisions can be divided into committees that concentrate their efforts in single areas. These committees are responsible for:  1. Setting goals for what they want to accomplish during the year and how they plan to achieve those goals  2. Reviewing the goals to determine which ones were achieved C. All chapters can compete in the National Chapter Award program which rewards chapters for their accomplishments throughout the year.

Organizing POA Chapters organize their POA by using committees. The number of committees will vary depending on the chapter. The Vice President coordinates the work of the committees. Every member should serve on atleast one committee.

Standing Committees There are 15 standing POA committees in the FFA manual. Leadership (student Healthy Lifestyles SAE Scholarship Agricultural Career Skills Chapter Recruitment Financial Public Relations Leadership (Chapter) Support Group Economic Development Environmental and Natural Resources Human Resources Citizenship Agricultural Awareness

What happens after a committees work is completed When to committee work is completed, each committee should report its recommendations to the entire chapter for approval or rejection or amendment. When a chapters POA is finalized the should be distributed to the members, school administrators, advisory committee, and others involved in its development.
