FLAO commissioning with InfraRed Test Camera (IRTC) S. Esposito, G. Brusa, A. Riccardi FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March 2009

The Bent Gregorian LBT FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March

Commissioning campaign activity rationale FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March Phase I Phase II From FLAO_07 TOC The two main phases of the commissioning campaign follow the idea to proceed in the test advancing in all system aspects (HW, control SW,data reduction SW) at the same time. So, the first phase milestones is a closed loop on-sky test with 200 modes and a bright star. This to recognize any serious problem in any of the components or procedures used. The second phase will then optimize the system in all aspects and will contains the final test of the system on sky.

(FLAO_09,FLAO_06) FLAO initial test and 1 st light on sky 15 days 5 nights a) Control SW test. b) 1 st light on sky in closed loop 1 st corrected images Closed loop done with 200 modes for high flux. FLAO closed loop test. 20 days 17 nights Closed loop test with FLAO with different fluxes: a) Engineering mode b) Observing modes FLAO closed loop achieved in engineering and observing modes. SR values >= baseline values defined in FLAO_01. Final system test 14 nightsSystem performance testFLAO system commissioned with IRTC FLAO performance >= baseline performance defined in FLAO_01 Commissioning campaign duration: -total time 93 days -days 57 -nights 36

FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March FLAO re-integration & alignment 1.System and sub-system functional test completed (compliance matrix). 2.LBT672, W#2 and IRTC installed at the telescope. 3.FLAO aligned with retro-reflecting optics (including IRTC). (see FLAO_06, FLAO_09) Total duration: 22 days, daytime 22 days

FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March FLAO system 1 st light 1 st corrected images on sky with 200 modes (engineering mode). Task summary: verification of system performance at the telescope site in daytime. On sky test of source acquisition, pupil geometry verification, close loop with high flux (engineering mode). Total duration: 25 days, daytime 20 days, nighttime 5 nights

FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March Observing modes daytime & on sky test On sky system performance vs. star mag, r0, v0: -engineering mode (baseline) -observing mode (ACE/ICE) (baseline) - ACE with on sky parameters optimization (goal) [SR >= baseline performance (FLAO_06)] Task summary: daytime fine calibration of system. Daytime closed loop test with verification of system performance in engineering and observing modes. On-sky test of system performance (both modes). Total duration: 37 days, daytime 20 days, nighttime17 nights

FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March Final on-sky FLAO test SR better then baseline performance (FLAO_06): Total duration: 14 days, nighttime14 nights FLAO final test on sky: repetition of a specific set of tests already done in phase II (see FLAO_06) Test list: Closed loop test with: -Engineering mode -Observing modes a) SLM, FSM b) ACE

FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March FLAO commissioning resuming table The required manpower is found compatible with the available resources of the group. The group relevant personnel is composed by 17 persons. About 5-7 personnel units will be available in Arcetri to progress with FLAO#2 test in solar tower (13/01/10-06/07/10).

FLAO system external review, Florence, 30/31 March Conclusion  The FLAO system telescope commissioning plan with IRTC has been formulated.  Main tasks of commissioning campaign have been identified.  Duration of each task and required manpower has been evaluated.  The schedule of the commissioning campaign has been shown.
