Serbian Environmental Protection Agency Biodiversity indicators in Serbia Mr Slavisa Popovic

Introduction 1.Biodiversity (4) 2.Forestry, hunting and fishery (8) 3.Sustainable use of natural resources (2) 4.Additional optional indicators (over 30)

Biodiversity indicators B1: Endangered and protected species B2: Protected area B3: Diversity of species B4: Dead wood

B1: Endangered and protected species Endangered species according to IUCN и SRBIUCN ClassisNumber of species IUCN 1994SRB IUCN 1995 IUCN 2004 Mammals ? Aves ? Reptiles25313 ? Amphibians23014 ? Pisces11012 ? Insects879 ?

Protected species Change of protected species number ( )

B2: Protected area Protected area is ha, witch is about 6 % of Serbia.

B2: Ecological networks EMERALD network (61 sites, ha) Important Birds area (42 sites, ha) NATURA 2000

B3: Diversity of species

B3: Griffon Vulture Nesting pars trend of Griffon Vulture in Uvac river canyon (Image S. Marinkovic)

B4: Dead wood 7.22 cubic meters per ha. Dead wood in forests.

Forestry, hunting and fishery Forestry 4 indicators Hunting 1 indicator Fishery 3 indicators Sustainable use of natural resources 2 indicators Forestry indicators have been prepared according to Ministerial conference (MCPFE) in Vienna 2002.

F1: Forest area, stands and forest types

F2: Forest species Forest species according to number of trees Forest species according to volume Tree species number in forest associations

F3: Forest health condition

F4: Damages in forests Forest fire area and volume

H1: Main game species dynamic of populations

Fish1: Inland water fish species 110 species and subspecies in Serbia. In Danube river basin has 79 species. In Adriatic sea basin has 16 native species. There is no data for Aegean sea basin.

Fish2: Index of fish biomass and catch Fish catch in Serbian rivers. (* New methodology of SEPA and SORS ) Structure of inland water fish species catch

Fish3: Aquaculture production With regard to fish production in ponds has increased by about 100 %, compost spent about 100 % and food consumed by about 35 %.

SU1: Forest management and the consumption of forests Forest products manufactured in state forests.

SU2: Forest growth and cuting The ratio of annual increment (about 9 millions m3) and annual cutting ( m3) is less than 3:1.

Conclusions 14 indicators have been annual reported. Over the 50 indicators were calculated for different national and international Conventions and Reports.
