How did security at UVI become an issue?  Mysterious drowning of a non University person on the UVI golf course last semester  Robbery and assault of UVI student at Brewers Bay just after sunset this semester

Attempts to make UVI safer?  Cameras  More phones and lights  More people on patrol  Better communication between students and security  Give exsisting security police training

More people on patrol and better communication between students and security  Security wants to start a student/staff employment  Students would do patrol work and other security tasks part-time  Hopefully, this initiative will build a stronger relationship between students and security

The Legislature’s Bill  The Legislature passed a bill to make UVI Security a Law Enforcement Agency  Challenge: An officer would expect to be paid the amount he/she is worth –On average, the starting salary rate for an officer is $30,000 a year while UVI security makes about $20,000 a year
