Swindon Creating a new day care centre to provide flexible, immediate and sustained day care for children with special needs and their families in Lydiard Park, Swindon. Our appeal is being backed by Swindon Borough Council and the Government’s Aiming High programme. Find out more visit Clarissa Mitchell - Trustee Rev. Celia Carter - Trustee Who Will Benefit? Hop Skip & Jump Swindon will cater for children from birth onwards who have disabilities ranging from mild learning difficulties to complex and multiple physical needs. The need for such a facility is evident. 1 in 15 people have a child with special needs, and we receive enquiries from all over the country from people wanting to visit our centres, many of whom are from the Swindon area. Our two existing centres receive around 31,000 visits between them every year, and by creating a new centre in Swindon, we will be extending our support further, helping thousands of people living in and around the town, as well as the people of Wiltshire. Five out of the ten most deprived areas of Wiltshire are located within the Swindon district, and we are anticipating that many of the families who will use the centre will come from areas of deprivation, as well as from more affluent areas. As well as offering specialist support and treatments to children with special needs, Hop Skip & Jump also extends it services to parents and siblings, helping to ease the pressures that coping with a child with special needs can bring. Facilities: The facilities at Hop Skip & Jump Swindon will incorporate specialist treatment and therapy rooms as well as a large central play area. Specialist rooms will include white and dark sensory rooms and a soft play room, and a complementary therapy room offering treatments including massage, reiki and aromatherapy. Other facilities will include a disabled shower, quiet room, kitchen, and an outdoor play area.
