C omplementary and A lternative M edicine, as defined by NCCAM, is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine.

Complementary medicine is used in addition to regular allopathic or western medicines.

Alternative medicine is used instead of using regular allopathic or western medicines.

Massage therapy or bodywork therapy such as Reiki, Alexander technique, and shiatsu

Chiropractor, reflexology, and Qi-gong

Oriental bodywork, acupuncture, and acupressure

Biofeedback, energy healing, and magnetic therapy

Herbal and nutritional supplements, folk medicine, and naturopathy

It is a practitioner that manipulates the spine for alternative medical treatments.

It is a complementary treatment that involves using different types of massage.

They are herb or plant-based supplements used either with or without conventional medicines to treat conditions.

It is a Chinese method that uses metal needles on certain body points to treat conditions.

It is a means of using the body’s energy waves with the mind to heal the body.

There are other available treatment options. While some medicines work better together, others just work better for certain people. Conventional medicines, as well as CAM medicines, have their own time and place. Knowledge is the key to living a healthy life! Medicines only work if you believe they will.
